5 Ways: Make a tiny space look bigger

Welcome to my specialty.

If you’ve ever lived in New York or Los Angeles, you’ve become well-accustomed to small living quarters.

I’m talking a studio apartment box with 400 square feet of living space.

Though, for the same price in Los Angeles, you get a bedroom and full kitchen.

You may also have a small space in your home and not know what to do with it.

Here are 5 tips to make your tiny space seem… well, not-so-tiny:

1. Hang window treatments from just below the ceiling and let them “puddle” or just touch the floor.

This will give the illusion that your ceilings are taller, subsequently making the room seem more spacious.  Bonus:  go monochromatic.  Paint the walls and trim in the same neutral shade and keep the window treatments in the same family.

The “DO” lends itself to a bigger feel for the same size window.

2. Strategically place a large mirror to reflect the room’s main light source.

Double the light and double the space.  Just make sure the mirror is large enough to help illuminate and open the room.

The infinite entry.

3. Anchor the space with large furniture.

It seems counterintuitive, but large pieces can actually make a small room look bigger.

4. Select a massive art piece or bookshelves to draw the eye up to the ceiling.

Not my personal style, but it illustrates the point.

Built-in and black make the best statement.

5. Ditch the clutter.

Create a calm and inviting space by keeping it simple. Clutter reads chaos. Too many pictures cluttered together, knick knacks and magazines you’ll never read will kill you softly.  A balanced home is a balanced mind.

I can’t.

Leave space for your things to breathe.

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone’s personal taste, but just remember, it doesn’t cost a dime to take things down…and you’ll probably feel better later.
